A representative for the Grammy-nominated singer confirms that she was killed in a car crash involving an 18-wheeler on Saturday (March 1). Stone’s daughter, Ladi Diamond, also announced the tragic news with a post on Facebook, where she writes, “My mommy is gone.” Stone was born Angela Laverne Brown in 1961 in Columbia, South Carolina, and launched her music career with The Sequence, celebrated for their 1979 track “Funk You Up.” After shifting to R&B in the 1990s, she achieved success with hits like “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” and “Wish I Didn’t Miss You.” Stone also was a successful songwriter, collaborating with music stars like D’Angelo (with whom she shares a son, Michael), Alicia Keys, and Lenny Kravitz.
